New to AA
If you think you might have a problem with alcohol, you are welcome here — exactly as you are.
You don’t need to be sure, and you don’t need to have hit any particular point. Many of us came to
our first meeting unsure and afraid. You are not alone.
What is a meeting like?
An AA meeting is simply people who have struggled with alcohol gathering to share their experience,
strength, and hope. You can come, sit, and just listen — no one will pressure you, ask you to speak,
or ask you to identify yourself. There is no cost. Meetings are held in person and online throughout
the district, every day of the week.
Common questions
Do I have to be an alcoholic to come?
The only requirement for AA membership is a desire to stop drinking. You decide for yourself
whether AA is right for you.
How much does it cost?
Nothing. There are no dues or fees. AA is self-supporting through the voluntary contributions of
its own members.
Is it anonymous?
Yes. Anonymity is the spiritual foundation of AA. What you hear at a meeting, and who you see
there, stays there. We protect each other’s privacy.
Is AA religious?
AA is not allied with any religion or organization. The program is spiritual, not religious, and
members hold every kind of belief and none. Take what helps and leave the rest.
